Motocross riders in the 1980s used to slap leather patches on their pants to avoid sliding all over the seat covers. In the 90s, dirt bikes started having perforated seats for better grip.
Jump to 2024, and we see custom seat covers using special grip materials, even Kevlar, and special stitching across the top to avoid sliding backwards while accelerating on today’s powerful four-strokes. In motocross starts, where every inch counts, riders even pull their pants forward and place them against the grip latches on their modern seat covers.
