Q: Hi Sascha, let’s ask the obvious: are you Russian?
A: Nope, I am Made in Germany, just like my seat covers, my parents, and grandparents. LOL.
Let me jump right in: GD seat covers have revolutionized the market with our custom seats that we ship worldwide. Made in Germany and made to order, you can pick your color, materials, design, and other details to get the best racing seat matching your graphics, race team, or motorcycle.
Q: Sascha, it all started with making butt patches from leather to provide the rider with more grip, which then became GD seats. Can you explain a little bit about how you stitch the most durable seats so they last a long time, give the rider grip, and avoid sliding backwards yet still allow sliding forward?
A: Our seat covers, as far as I know, are the only ones worldwide that have this exact feature. You have grip when you accelerate through bumps and on uphills or on the start gate. All the other manufacturers of seat covers have the same grip when you slide forward, which is actually not necessary or even hinders your sliding forward. We included this technology in our seat covers to increase the performance of your racing and riding.
Q: Perfect. Is this part of every seat cover that we can purchase, or do we have to select a special feature in the customizing tool?
A: It’s standard for our seat covers. You don’t have to choose any special feature to get this exact performance-increasing feature on your seat cover.
Q: So I remember back in the 80s and 90s, seat covers were sort of just getting old and ripping and tearing. The OEM seat covers, the original seat covers that the dirt bikes come with today, have much better materials available. I know that you were experimenting for years, improving seat covers as a whole, and when you finally found a really specialized supplier for your seat cover materials, you finally said, “Okay, this is worth my time using craftsmanship and special stitching techniques to build seat covers in Germany that last a lot longer even than the OEM seats today.” Can you explain to us the different types of materials you have, what’s unique about them, and if they are different materials I can select in your customized motocross seat cover tool?
A: Our factory grip material, as we call it, is definitely race-proven. Race-winning factory teams use this exact material. It’s super durable, lightweight, and offers a lot of grip, which you really want if you race, not only at a professional level but also if you’re just a weekend warrior. Your performance improves a lot; a lot of people don’t even think about it, but if you have a grippy seat cover, you can sit a lot more relaxed on the dirt bike when accelerating, and your upper body doesn’t have to have as much grip strength. We also offer a medium grip level material if some riders prefer having less grip on the seat. It’s rider preference, like almost everything on the bike. We also have an OEM grip level material which comes with over 300 different colors available, which is unheard of with custom seat covers worldwide. Yeah, I mean, we always tell the customer: As long as you can tell us how you want the seat cover, we can do it.
Q: Do you offer seats for only current bikes like 2024 models? Do you offer seat covers for brand new models like Sur-Ron, Stark, or other electric bikes? Also, do you offer seat covers for supermoto bikes? And why do you think your seats and the technology that went into your seats in the years of racing and stitching techniques, tests, durability tests for the material, and so forth – how does that help the average motocross rider, supermoto rider, or your electric motocross bike riders these days?
A: We definitely have all the templates for the current bikes. I would say for the past 20 years, we basically have all the templates for the leading manufacturers like the Japanese models and also the European models like Beta or whatever, Gas Gas like the older model before it was purchased by KTM. We also have templates even further back, like from the 90s or even the 80s. And if we don’t have the template, you could also send us your seat and we can do the template for whatever seat you send us. So the availability and the possibilities are basically endless.
Q: Alright, thank you Sascha for bringing us up to speed on motocross seat covers.
Let’s catch up soon so you can tell us all about your motocross racing mechanic history and which pro motocross riders and teams have had the pleasure of working with you already.
A: Sure, Let’s catch you soon.
